Viparita Karani: Legs-Up-The-Wall Pose

Shashankasana Pranayama

(Bowing Breath) is a Meditation-in-Motion practice to draw us deeper within, and to establish ourselves as to who ‘we really are’ (I Am THAT I Am). Sit upright and on the heels (Virasana), inhaling fully while lifting the chest, lifting the chin and leaning back slightly, pausing the breath at the top of the inhalation. When prompted by Prana to exhale, bend the torso forward and down, exhaling fully while extending the arms along the mat until meeting the physical edge, pausing the breath again. Repeat this breath pattern over and over, experiencing ‘evenness of mind’. When feeling complete, rise up slowly, holding the breath briefly at the top of the inhalation, remain still, and eventually exhale. Bring attention to the brow center (Agni chakra) and rest in stillness, feeling a felt-sense of introversion, merging into that vast spacious field of awareness. This deep state of relaxation through Bowing Breath leads us to “remove the tension of becoming something that we are not, and allows a deep sense of ease, knowing Presence, being free from thoughts, emotions, and perceptions… transforming the experience of life into a Meditation in Motion.” - Swami Kripalvanandji (Bapuji).
