Pet Supply Store Opens in Washington Depot
After being weekenders to Litchfield County for 28 years, and moving to town permanently this year, Electa Varnish saw a need for a dog supply business in the neighborhood. Varnish opened Depot Dog, a boutique store at 11 Titus Road, in Washington Depot, with a mission of pet wellness.
Depot Dog sells locally made products, including dog shampoo, treats and scented candles in exclusive, pet-centric scents, as well as felt pet caves. “We are committed to providing the best quality nutrition, necessities, products and information for cats and dogs throughout all their prospective life stages,” says Varnish.
Depot Dog is also seeing plenty of local residents who have moved to the area from the city due to COVID. There has also been an increase in pet adoption that started during the beginning of the pandemic.
Varnish wanted to open Depot Dog largely due to her family’s love of animals. Her family has a rescue dog named Fisher, who is featured in the store’s logo, and a rescue cat named Salizar. Varnish also hopes to provide customers with the ability to purchase items online through her website.
