Self-Defense for Women Classes
Learn basic self-defense techniques, plus ways to avoid or escape assault, at a Self-Defense for Women class, held on July 8 and 15, from 7:15 to 9pm, at NM Fitness & Aquatics Club, in New Milford. You may attend one class or both, as different topics will be covered at each.
Topics covered in the class include: how to recognize and avoid potential threats; basic principles of self-defense and taking control; situational awareness and boundary setting; realities of physical assaults; attackers, predators and their behavior; techniques and strategies to self-defense; and physical self-defense drills and scenarios.
Instructor Stacey Pereira has worked for the CT Department of Correction for almost 26 years and is currently Deputy Warden. She was a member of the department’s riot team and held a position as the only female member of a weapons team as a shotgun operator. Additionally, she is certified in self-defense instruction, kickboxing and has a martial arts background.
The class costs $30 for one or $55 for both.
