Natural Awakenings Fairfield & Southern Litchfield Counties

Hummingbird Sound Yoga in New Milford

Area yogis have two opportunities this month to try a new sound yoga class offered in New Milford by Barbara (Bobbi) Soares, MA, IARP, certified vocal/sound yoga teacher. The classes will take place on Friday, July 12 from 6 to 7:30pm and Sunday, July 28 from 9 to 10:30am. Each is an opportunity to explore your unique voice and find powerful internal medicine for healing and self-compassion. Class includes a Humming for Health meditation, toning and deep listening, gentle yoga poses to support your sound and finishes with a sound bath.

Practicing yoga improves breath awareness and helps create more space in the body. Sound rides on the breath which helps explore this space. We live in an ocean of sound and vibration, constantly changing and affecting our own unique natural resonance. Stress causes this resonance to get out of tune. Sound yoga helps us explore this space by shifting awareness to where the body is resonating. Humming techniques, self-created sounds, and sound baths help us reconnect with our own natural resonance.

“Exploring your voice to hum and make sounds is a powerful medicine,” Soares says. “It helps you see how you wear your life, where you hide, armor or hold back to protect yourself.”

There is a $25 suggested donation and pre-registration is strongly suggested because the class size will be limited to ten.
