Volunteer in Sticks and Stones Giving Garden
In partnership with Two Coyotes Wilderness School, the historic Sticks and Stones Vegetable Garden is currently recruiting volunteers to help expand so they can grow as much food as possible. Volunteers are needed every Saturday in April, from 8:30am to 12:30pm, to prep for the growing season. This pristine organic lot along Huntingtown Road has never been touched with any chemicals or fertilizers. The produce has always been colorful, nutritious and delicious, which says much about the land it is grown on.
Volunteers will be working on: cleaning winter debris from the garden beds, securing and patching the surrounding fence, rebuilding a stone supporting wall, mulching the walkways, sifting the soil, applying compost and organizing the layout of crops. Some tools are available for shared use, but if you have some basic gardening tools, please bring them with you (shovels, rakes). Wear comfortable clothes, dress weather-appropriate and wear shoes you can get muddy. Water, coffee and snacks will be provided for everyone.
There will be limited CSA shares available to help cover costs and they plan to donate a lot of fresh vegetables, herbs and fruits to local food banks. Limited parking is available at the garden just north of Maltbie Road. Additional parking is at the main lot at 201 Huntingtown Road. It’s a short walk down to the garden from there.
