Black Rock Welcomes New Yoga Studio
A new yoga studio is opening in early June in the heart of Bridgeport’s historic Black Rock neighborhood. The studio will offer a wide range of classes to students of all skill levels. The Rock basics class will focus on the fundamentals of the postures and their optimal alignment on Sundays at noon. All are welcome at Grit and Grace, an open mixed-level vinyasa flow class that is heated on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. LSD—or Long, Still, Deep—is a passive but challenging yin practice that targets the fascial connective soft tissues of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. The majority of work is done sitting or lying down and holding poses for a long duration of 3-7 minutes. The Allow, Soften, Surrender class is meant to restore, renew and relax the central nervous system with gentle, soothing and long-held yoga postures. Heated on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday, Big Kahuna class is a faster-paced intermediate class with some inversions and arm balances.
Buddha Groove, a fun, evening, intermediate/advanced-level vinyasa flow class accompanied by live acoustic guitar, offers some advanced asanas but all are welcome as modifications will be given. Enrollment is limited for this class. SOB—or Stiff, Old, Broken—is a slow and meditative practice with gentle, more instructive flow, breaking down vinyasa concepts, using props for sun salutations and modification details.
New students and drop-ins are welcome. The studio has mats and props that you can borrow for free, and a filtered water cooler for use with refillable bottles. One of Black Rock Yoga’s first partnerships is with the local juice bar, Replenish, which will take your favorite juice order before class and have it ready to go at the studio once your class is completed.
