Institute for Holistic Health Studies’ Fall Events

The Institute for Holistic Health Studies (IHHS) at Western Connecticut State University has announced its schedule of programs for the fall semester.

The semester kicks off with the presentation of Meditation: Multicultural Perspectives on September 6 from 4:45 to 8:45pm, in the Campus Center of the WCSU Westside campus, located on Mill Plain Road in Danbury. Several workshops presented by local practitioners and educators will offer various styles of meditation including yoga, drumming, intuitive meditation and Tibetan singing bowls. This event is free and open to the public.

The Wellness Wednesday Workshop series begins on September 13 with Dr. Michael Finkelstein presenting An Introduction to the Integrative Approach to Health. This series of free workshops, open to the public, will take place in White Hall, Room 127, on the WCSU Midtown campus, located at 181 White Street, Danbury.

Additional Wellness Wednesday workshops include:

• Acupuncture for Stress Management with Laura Shahinian Kara (September 27);

• Decoding Food Labels with Deb Oria (October 11);

• Poetry and Journaling for Self and Social Action with Rebecca Schoenewolf (October 25);

• Drumming for the Health of It with Herman Olivera III (November 8); and

• Pilates for You with Marion Cooper (November 28).

The IHHS sponsors a monthly Sahaja Yoga Meditation on the second Tuesday of the month (September 12, October 10, November 14 and December 12) at 7pm in Warner Hall, Room 103, on the WCSU Midtown campus. This is a seated meditation with breath work, finger mudras, affirmations and chakra clearing. This meditation event is free and open to the public.

Stressed is Desserts Spelled Backwards, a special event presentation sponsored by IHHS, will offer the wisdom of internationally known author, award-winning film director, motivational speaker and holistic stress management expert, Brian Luke Seaward, PhD. The event will be held October 18 at 7:30pm in the Ives concert hall on the WCSU Midtown campus, located at 181 White Street, Danbury. Tickets for this presentation are available at the WCSU box office at 203-837-TIXX or WCSU.edu/Tickets, or at the door. General admission is $15. A book signing will immediately follow the presentation.
