September 2017 Letter From Publisher
Nicole Miale
There are very few people among us who have not been touched in some way by the modern epidemic called cancer. Whether it is direct personal experience or the painful experience of loving and supporting someone else dealing with their illness, cancer has sadly become a point of commonality for many.
In this issue we tackled the broad subject, specifically looking at natural strategies to both prevent and heal cancer. While things have gotten better with the advent of integrative cancer centers, the concepts of prevention and healing cancer are still not widely discussed by conventional physicians. We hope the information provided is educational and supportive; it is sent with love and utmost compassion for anyone in need.
September is yoga month across the nation; in recognition we’ve expanded the usual Mastering Yoga section to include information from many studios around the area, educational tidbits about the various benefits of yoga, plus articles from the two men who were my first yogis. One taught me on videotape (yes, that long ago, lol) and the other in person; I’m still grateful to both! Rodney Yee and Norwalk’s own Yogi Brian Buturla each share some insightful words on what it means to choose and live a yogic lifestyle.
I have some news to share. It’s hard to believe sometimes, but I’ve been publisher of Natural Awakenings in Fairfield/Southwestern Litchfield Counties for more than four years. I still love what I do! Sure, there are days when I’m frustrated, overtired or all talked out. Even those days are OK with me because I know what I do matters. That’s why when the recent chance arose to take over the Hartford County edition of Natural Awakenings, I realized quickly I still had more to give. I love what I do enough that I want to do even more of it! It is tremendously exciting as I look forward to being of service to a new, vibrant community where I already know some people but look forward to reconnecting with and meeting many more. Community expansion has always been our mantra here at Natural Awakenings and that has not changed with the years. So with this September issue I am now the publisher of two amazing Natural Awakenings editions. Exciting!
There are many great events coming up this month across the state. Natural Awakenings will be at many, with one edition or the other. I look forward to seeing you there!
With love and light,
Nicole
