Natural Awakenings Fairfield & Southern Litchfield Counties

Start the Summer with Yoga and Movement

Yoga for Everybody, an independently owned and operated Kripalu-affiliated studio located in downtown Fairfield, is offering multiple workshops in the month of June.

Conscious Sleep and Essential Oils: The Path to Better Sleep with Ingrid Prueher will be the first event of the month on June 4 at 2pm. In this two-hour workshop, you will combine a blend of certified therapeutic grade essential oils, yoga nidra and gong while learning why sleep is so important and how to get more of it. Yoga nidra, also known as yogic sleep, allows you to get into three of the five sleep phases, all while being awake via sleep guided meditation. You will spend part of the session in shavasana, or corpse pose, with eyes closed; you will use essential oils to heighten your experience. The fee is $35 if paid by May 28, or $45 thereafter.

On June 10 at 4pm, Relax & Renew: A Restorative Practice with Thai Bodywork, Reiki, and Aromatherapy will be presented by Jeanine Oburchay. The two-hour restorative practice will include Oburchay’s Thai bodywork during your poses, as well as Reiki energy healing and aromatherapy. Using breathing techniques and guided visualization, the body is supported by blankets, blocks, bolsters and straps in a series of postures intended to allow deep relaxation. If paid by June 3, the fee is $35, or $45 thereafter.

On June 23, Journey Dance – Blissful Movement with Joanne Keane will be held from 6:30 to 8pm. You will be guided through a series of organic movements to clear away stuck energy and let your own energy flow through you freely. It will be followed by a shamanic meditation and chakra clearing. No dancing experience necessary. The workshop is $25 if paid by June 16, or $35 thereafter.

Another workshop this month is the Mindful Yoga for Teen Anxiety Training Workshop with Cynthia Beers on June 24 from 1-6pm. This training focuses on a six-week program that gives practitioners tools necessary to teach teens resilience in moments of anxiety, depression, panic attacks and high-functioning autism. The early-bird price of $100 is good through June 17, and then $125 thereafter.

Chanting specific mantras or sounds is one of the most potent and healing of all meditation techniques, and one of the most accessible. The June 24 (4:30-5:30pm) sound meditation workshop, Summer Meditation – BIJA Mantra with Deborah Swann, will guide you in chanting the Bija Mantras. Chanting the ancient Sanskrit sounds creates a harmonic resonance in the body and mind, awakening inner energy.
