Marc Brodsky, a medical doctor in Stamford, has launched a new gelato line sweetened only with natural fruit. Tart ‘n Soul Gelato is available now in pomegranate and tart cherry flavors. “Created with Heart for Your Health,” the tagline for Tart ‘n Soul Gelato, was chosen because of the potential health effects of its fruit flavors. Brodsky’s Tart ‘n Soul Gelato recipes are produced by Longford’s Ice Cream and are currently available at Shoprite in Stamford. 

Brodsky’s idea of a nutritious, fun frozen dessert started in Los Angeles, California, where he met a person who owned a gelato café. Fascinated by the texture and fruity taste of the gelato, Brodsky began experimenting to create his own healthy versions of gelato. In addition to the fruit, ingredients include potato starch, whole milk, cream, non-fat dry milk and soy lecithin, among others. 

The potential benefits of pomegranate include improved blood flow to the heart, and slowing plaque buildup in blood vessels and cancer growth. Tart cherries can play a part in preventing cancers, fighting heart disease and protecting against muscle damage.
