A pair of local chiropractors are betting their PurePosture product will be a hit as they launch it on The Grommet (TheGrommet.com), an online “shark tank” that has launched brands such as Fitbit, SodaStream, and Alex and Ani. The patented home orthopedic device—which helps alleviate back pain and correct posture—was invented by practicing chiropractors Beverley Marr and Chris Sova after Sova could not find a home product to provide relief for the constant pain between his shoulder blades.

“We looked for something that would help in that area and there was nothing. That’s when I knew I would have to make something I could lay on that would stretch specific ligaments, simulating a chiropractic adjustment,” says Sova.

The result is a custom-sized device built in Norwalk that, when laid on, aligns the spine using one’s own body weight and gravity. “We have been using PurePosture on our patients since 2012 with great results,” said co-founder Marr. “Patients come to the doctor’s office for pain relief. Poor posture is responsible for much of neck and back pain…We live in a ‘sit-down’ world, where we spend too much of our day hunched over a keyboard. Continuous slouching, especially while sitting, puts too much pressure on the spine and compromises internal organs, leading to pain, poor posture, and a host of other health issues.”
