Spinal Adjustment Improves Common Childhood Ailments

The body needs balance and harmony to stay aligned and connected; alignment allows you to stay true to your purest expression of health. This is true regardless of age; when your children experience common childhood maladies, you have options concerning their health. “Chiropractic care is safe and has been around a long time; it can help with a lot of things,” says Leonard Fox, a chiropractor with a practice in Wilton.
The concept of spinal adjustments has been around since the time of ancient Greeks and Egyptians. Spinal adjustments allow energy to flow unimpeded, and gives way to clear communication between all elements of the central nervous system. The system consists of the brain and the spinal cord, which is an extension of the brain. The central nervous system sends information to all the body parts. When these messages are not being sent out, or are blocked in any way, you experience dis-ease in that correlating part of the body. Each of the 24 vertebrae in your spine correlates with a group of organs, forms and functions. Chiropractic doctors believe the body is a perfect organism in its natural state, and disease comes from a disruption in the body’s proper transmission of signals by the nerves, which affect its ability to heal and to defend against disease-causing agents.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, ear infection is the most frequent childhood illness after the common cold; an estimated 30 million doctor visits each year are attributed to it. Furthermore, six million courses of antibiotics are prescribed. Chiropractic doctors offer a different approach, a gentler, non-surgical, drug-free solution. A study published in the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association’s newsletter in July 1995 found that a child experiencing ear infection, asthma, swollen adenoids and 50 percent hearing loss was free of these symptoms and fully recovered after a treatment plan of chiropractic adjustments twice a week for six weeks.
Donna Boylan, a Bethel-based chiropractor, has seen many children over the course of her career. She is currently seeing a 2-year-old patient, Azari W., who presented with a double ear infection, swollen adenoids, sleep apnea, swollen tonsils and a fever of over 104 degrees. Surgery to remove his adenoids and tonsils and place tubes in his ears was recommended by a conventional ear, nose and throat specialist. The parents of the child noticed marked improvement after just the second adjustment with Boylan. Azari is now well on his way to a complete recovery without the need for invasive and painful surgeries.
The effectiveness of chiropractic care is based on the body’s own ability to heal. Chiropractors do not treat dis-eases; they assist the body in coming back into alignment so the fullest expression of health can be experienced.
