Walk for a New Spring Plans Stops in Fairfield County
The Monks and Nuns of Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist Order and the New England Peace Pagoda invite the public to participate in their eighth annual Walk for a New Spring from February 13 to April 8. This year's goal is a 55-day walk to our nation's capital in Washington, DC. The walk begins in Western Massachusetts and culminates in Washington, DC. By the time they arrive winter will have loosened its icy grip and the cherry blossoms may be in bloom, a symbol of rebirth and the preciousness of life.
The walk will focus on abolition of nuclear weapons, renunciation of war, and the conversion of our economy from war to peace. It is the group’s belief that the source of our collective security is not our weapons, but is the way we think and act together. Along the way they will share with each community ways of making real the energy of hope and change that has been created by the arrival of a change in American leadership. Everyone will play an essential part in that leadership.
Join Walk for a New Spring by walking for an hour, a day or for its entirety. Supporters can help by organizing a community potluck, offering a place for the walkers to sleep, or paying a visit to your Mayor. The Monks and Nuns have asked all who seek peace to please keep this walk and the participants in your thoughts and prayers.
